Alternatively, you can break down the containment door using a Stone or Iron Sledgehammer, or an Iron Pickaxe; doing so yields some materials as well. For the basement plants, simply take the rear stairwell down to the first basement floor. You'll find the Super Corn inside a small greenhouse without needing to break any doors.
